Back in the 1990s a timid, thin, young math teacher walked into the Boston Martial Arts Center and began training with us. Many doubted he would last but he not only lasted he earned a black belt from my teacher Mark Davis. His transformation from fear to confindence and capability was one of greatest changes I have seen in all my time training in this art. But he wasn’t done yet.
He took on another challenge and decided to travel accross country to LA and attend rabbinical school. He has become a rabbi, a husband, a father, and to all who know him a true friend. He is one of the most generous and compassionate people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. If you would like to see the combination of Fudo Myoo and Kannon come to life in one person, you just need to stop by a synagogue in Lexington Kentucky where my friend “Ninja Rabbi” Moshe Smolkin leads and protects his community.
In the shadow of recent events I wanted to shed light on a special person who brings to life everday the lessons of our art and let him know we are there for him.
